About NCAS

Founded in 1987, the National Capital Area Skeptics is an independent 501(c)3 not-for-profit, educational, and scientific membership organization that promotes critical thinking and scientific understanding.

Vision
We strive to be a thriving, diverse community in the National Capital Area that is part of a worldwide network of skeptics who champion critical thinking, information literacy, and scientific approaches to problem solving.

Mission
We educate ourselves and the public, and we engage constructively with those who hold differing views regarding extraordinary claims and mis/disinformation through the following:
  • Lectures and other public programs focused on understanding extraordinary claims;
  • Workshops that provide tools for critical thinking and addressing false or misleading information;
  • Online resources, ranging from historical documents to an extensive video library;
  • Recognition of individuals and organizations that share our values;
  • Challenges to claims that lack reasonable evidence;
  • Communication & cool social opportunities among members and with like-minded groups around the world.

The stuff we do is fun, interesting, and important. We welcome your participation. Please join us.
